Sony Electronics is continuing to broaden its line of Hi-Scan 1080i™ rear-projection televisions with the introduction
of a 46-inch widescreen model.
Sony's first 46-inch rear projection television, the new KP-46WT500 model combines technical and design enhancements
that result in a crisp, brilliant picture in a unique, thin bezel tabletop design.
The new TV is equipped with many of the high-performance features available on Sony's WS- and WV-series models,
including the Hi-Scan 1080i™ chassis, an integrated Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection, DRC™ MultiFunction
circuitry, an HD MicroFocus™ CRT, HD Detailer™ wideband video amp, MID™-X circuitry and SRS TruSurround™ sound.
"Sony now offers the widest variety of 16:9 rear projection televisions in the industry," said Tim Alessi,
director of marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Division. "The new KP-46WT500 model is
the most compact widescreen size among our rear-projection sets, yet it still packs the same punch with innovative
performance-enhancing features that result in brilliant images and a rich home theater experience."
Sporting a unique, new design and equipped with proprietary video technologies, the KP-46WT500 model is a terrific
solution for home theater enthusiasts who enjoy the rear-projection viewing experience, but are not quite ready
for a larger 57-inch or 65-inch set. The new model incorporates a Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection
that enables copy-protected, high-definition video content to be delivered to the TV from a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth
Digital Content Protection) compatible set-top box, such as Sony's new SAT-HD200 receiver.
The KP-46WT500 features a number of proprietary innovations found in other models in Sony's 2002 rear-projection
line, including:
HD MicroFocus™ CRT with its increased beam strength and 30-percent smaller spot size than conventional CRTs, resulting
in a brighter and sharper image; and
HD MicroFocus lens system, which provides clearer focus, resulting in breathtaking picture quality.
The new model also includes such outstanding performance features as Digital Reality Creation Multifunction™ circuitry,
CineMotion™ reverse 3:2 pulldown circuitry for optimum film-based video source display, Multi-Image Driver-X with
Scrolling Channel Index™ system, and Flexible Twin-View™ 2-tuner picture-and-picture.
In addition, with two HD component video inputs (Y/PB/PR) and DVI-HDTV connection, the KP-46HT500 offers the highest
quality connections to DVD players, as well as outstanding performance with HD receiver/decoders.
An optional stand, SU-46WT, is also be available for $199.
Digital Reality Creation™ MultiFunction This Sony proprietary technology displays four times the picture resolution
compared to conventional TV’s for the very best in picture quality. A basic distraction of today’s “NTSC” television
system is its scanning structure of 480i scanning lines of interlaced video. The bigger the screen size, the more
apparent scanning lines become. DRC™ MultiFunction circuitry minimizes the visibility of those annoying scan lines
producing a picture that rivals High Definition. Unlike conventional line doublers, this real time digital bitmapping
process replaces analog NTSC patterns with their High Definition digital equivalents. The result is four times
the picture density of conventional television.
CineMotion™ Reverse 3-2 Pull-Down Technology Is a fixed algorithm irrespective of source which preserves the integrity
of movie film frames to create the best possible image.
Multi-Image Driver (MID™-X) With Sony’s flexible Twin-View™ 2 Tuner Picture and Picture a person can watch two
full motion pictures side by side. Together Twin-View and Sony’s proprietary MID-X allows the customer to watch
analog (NTSC) along side of HDTV at the same time on the same screen. This circuitry also allows you to zoom in
and out of these images to customize the Picture and Picture environment. Also, with MID-X, both images are improved
to 480 progressive image quality.
HD Detailer™ Wide Band Video Amplifier When a video signal leaves the video processor, it is only a few volts,
which is not enough to drive the CRT. The signal then goes through a video amplifier to deliver a usable signal
to the CRT. The bandwidth rating of this video amp is very important, although the original video source may contain
a great level of detail (e.g. higher frequency data from an HD source), if the video amp is rated at a lower frequency,
it will not allow this greater detail to be shown.
DVI - HDTV Interface (Digital Visual Interface) The DVI - HDTV Interface has been added for the latest generation
in high definition television connectivity. A single wire delivers a full digital, uncompressed HD signal that
can be received from any DVI set top box.
